Improving health of disadvantaged pregnant women and mothers
Burkina Faso is one of the most disadvantaged countries in the world, with 44% of the population living below the poverty line. Every day, almost 2,500 women die from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth, most of which could easily have been avoided.
The neonatal mortality rate is also high, at 27 deaths per 100 live births, one of the worst in sub-Saharan Africa.
All too often, women and their families have not been informed of the risks, and so have not been able to make the right decision in time to protect their health and that of their baby.
This is why, with our local partner IPC, we carry out health education actions for the local population and offer training courses for health workers.
What makes us different
- Training of healthcare personnel: health education, the participation of husbands and respect for women’s rights are an integral part of healthcare to ensure better patient care;
- Community involvement: communities identify and implement solutions to improve the health of women and newborns, such as repairing roads, building a waiting home for pregnant women, etc. They are also involved in the management of health centers;
- Health education: the mobile application Mon bébé et moi and a brochure on preparing for childbirth and emergencies are available to pregnant women and their spouses.
Enfants du Monde works with other organizations to implement projects such as PANDA, a telemedicine system developed to improve medical follow-up.

My donation makes a difference
I offer a brochure about birth preparation and emergencies to 250 pregnant women and young mothers in Burkina Faso.
I offer 232 women in Burkina Faso the app “My baby and I”, to help them monitor their pregnancy and recognise danger signs for themselves and their babies.
