The Country’s Challenges

In Niger, four out of ten girls and three out of ten boys do not go to school. Children grow up in an often dangerous environment that prevents them from attending school regularly. 76% of girls are married before the age of 18, 36% of teenage girls become pregnant between the ages of 15 and 19, and only 29.9% of girls are literate, compared to 50.2% of boys.

Enfants du Monde works actively in Niger to offer a second chance to children who are out of school or who have left school too early. The aim is to improve the quality of and access to education.

Our Impact

914 children and young people have gained access to quality primary education;
15,000 young people aged 9 to 14 who have dropped out of school or never attended school are receiving education tailored to their needs thanks to the mandate we carry out for Swiss Cooperation.

My dad couldn’t afford to send me to school because he already pays for two of my brothers. I was able to go to school with the support of Enfants du Monde because it’s free.

Until 2022, we provided access to quality education for children aged 9 to 13 who had dropped out of school.

Education for Young People who Have Dropped out of School

As part of a mandate from Swiss Cooperation, we offer alternative education to young people who have dropped out of school, enabling them to build a future for themselves.

A Beautiful Journey Made Possible Thanks to Education

We believe that all children should have access to education. That is why we train teachers in a bilingual pedagogical approach, enabling them to teach in both the children’s mother tongue and the official language. In this way, those who only speak one local dialect at home can gradually learn the official language and be able to pursue their studies or learn a profession.
