From July 2022 to June 2023, despite significant security and financial challenges and galloping inflation, the “ Project to support a multi-sectoral and integrated response to the needs of affected populations in the East region ” (Projet d’Appui à une Réponse Multisectorielle et Intégrée aux besoins des populations affectées de la région de l’Est ) achieved its objectives by improving access to education and drinking water for people affected by the crisis in the communes of Fada and Diapaga. It has also contributed to the mental well-being and resilience of the affected communities.
Our impact Better access to education
The project has helped to improve access to school for internally displaced pupils and vulnerable children in host communities, with :
- The creation of emergency classrooms;
- Building the capacity of teachers;
- Organising refresher courses for pupils who have dropped out of school;
- Distributing school kits to vulnerable pupils;
- Pre-vocational training for young people outside the school system;
- A radio education programme for children deprived of education.
Aminata 11 years old, internally displaced pupil
After my school closed, I didn’t go to school for 2 years. I couldn’t even do maths and conjugation. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to go back to school and I was really sad. Thanks to the refresher courses, I was able to return to a class that corresponded to my age and today I can continue my studies.
