We Train Healthcare Workers
In Haiti, when a pregnant woman has a health problem, she first seeks help from traditional healers before going to a health centre. Unfortunately, these traditional treatments result in the deaths of many women in Haiti. They die because they did not receive the right healthcare in time.
We are Improving Care for Pregnant Women and Babies
In many cases, these deaths are due to complications that could have been easily treated if the woman had gone to a health centre quickly and been cared for by qualified medical staff.
Enfants du Monde’s health project in Haiti therefore aims to improve care for pregnant women, mothers and babies. To achieve this, our Swiss NGO works with local communities to identify the main problems affecting access to healthcare and find solutions together.
In addition, midwives have been recruited to improve medical care for pregnant women and mothers.
Stéphanie Joseph, Midwife, Haiti
Since I was hired, prenatal consultations have increased and there are more births at the health centre. I decided to become a midwife because it is a noble profession and I enjoy helping people in need. I advise pregnant women, explaining to them how to prevent complications.
Our Impact
- More than 43,000 pregnant women, young mothers and babies have benefited from our health project in Dufour and Délattes, two communities in the Petit and Grand Goâve region in western Haiti.
- Midwives and health workers receive training in counselling and communication on maternal and neonatal health issues.
- Health workers, traditional healers, families and the local population in Haiti are involved in the health project to find the best solutions together.
Enfants du Monde works in partnership with Médecins du Monde Spain, local organisations and the Haitian Ministry of Health.

My Donation Can Make a Real Difference
I could provide a brochure on birth preparation and emergency warning signs to 250 pregnant women and young mothers in Burkina Faso.
I could offer the “My Baby and I” app to 232 women in Burkina Faso—helping them monitor their pregnancy and recognise danger signs for themselves and their babies.
I could provide bilingual school textbooks in French and Mooré to 20 children in Burkina Faso to support their learning.
