Discover this new book from Enfants du Monde and the “Centre Interfacultaire en Droits de l’Enfant” of the University of Geneva.
On the 12th of October, the « Centre Interfacultaire en Droits de l’Enfant » of the University of Geneva and Enfants du Monde invited professionals and students to a webinar, an opportunity to discover the publication “Women’s rights and children’s rights – towards an integrated approach in development cooperation” with the authors.
30 participants from civil society and the academic world attended the launch of the publication.
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
The publication is the highlight of a project born in 2019, for the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. An anniversary celebrated by a symposium, a conference and a publication.
Following two years of close collaboration between members of civil society and the academic world, the publication is the result of a partnership between Enfant du Monde and the Interfaculty Centre of the UNIGE, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), as well as the valuable participation of Make Mother Matter, AÇEV, Terre des Hommes Switzerland and Plan International.
Illustrating the tensions and synergies between women’s rights and children’s rights
This book recalls human rights violations and the difficult recognition of women’s rights and children’s rights, with testimonies from young women from the International Youth Council of Terre des Hommes.
With case studies in Colombia, Turkey and Burkina Faso, this book presents concrete situations where women’s rights and children’s rights are linked, sometimes with specific issues. An inclusive approach, with the participation of men as fathers and husbands, is strongly recommended.
These case studies remind us of the importance of initiatives on the ground and on the international scene, for example with the Girls Rights Platform set up by Plan International.
Encourage dialogue and collaboration between the Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women
The Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and their respective committees, are seen as both complementary and interdependent.
This project highlights the importance of the synergy of women’s rights and children’s rights, without neglecting the involvement of men. This publication, at the heart of human rights, reminds us of the universality, interdependence and indivisibility of human rights.
Thus, when important actors from civil society and the academic world collaborate, an innovative publication can be developed. This project appears as a call for both new initiatives from Geneva, as the global hub for human rights, and for further reflection on women’s rights and children’s rights.
