Second grade student, Jessica Paola Quex Nimajay (8), writes in her notebook during class in the Official bilingual mixed urban school Iximché, located in Tecpán Guatemala, Chimaltenango, on November 4, 2022. Many Maya children in this region of Guatemala come from rural, some from poor communities. The Iximché school is supported by Enfants du Monde, where the kids learn not only in Spanish -one of the official languages in Guatemala- but also in kaqchikel, their mother tongue, which allows them to learn faster and better. Teachers are trained in “active learning” so that they use methods which encourage the pupils’ participation and their ability to learn “how to learn”. Due to Covid, schools were closed for two years. This year 2002 the Ministry of Education authorized on-site classes, but with safety protocols to avoid contagion. Among the measures are the use of masks, hand washing and the bubble method, which establishes the number of students that should be in each classroom.

I provide 16 children in Burkina Faso with a bilingual textbook in French and their local mother tongue (Mooré) to help them progress.

With a donation of 50 francs per month:

I am offering continuing education to 50 teachers in Guatemala to improve the quality of their lessons.

With a donation of 100 francs per month:

I am funding maternal and child health training for 16 healthcare workers in Bangladesh.
