The security crisis in Burkina Faso has led to a significant increase in humanitarian needs, affecting around 4.7 million people, or one in 5 Burkinabè. These critical needs are mainly concentrated in six regions of the country, including the Center-North: Kaya and Pissila.

The region faces significant challenges in water, hygiene, sanitation, as well as other essential needs such as nutrition, health, and protection. Additionally in the education sector, many schools in the region remain closed affecting many students.

Improving the Situation Through a Global Approach

Faced with these pressing challenges, Enfants du Monde was mandated by the Regional Humanitarian Fund for West and Central Africa (FHRAOC) to carry out a project to provide access to water and hygiene as well as educate children in a safe environment in collaboration with Faso-Action for community development (FDC). This Support Project for a Multisectoral and Integrated Response to the needs of affected populations in the Center-North region  outspreads over 1 year from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024.

Our Impact

  • Ensure secure, suitable and equitable access to drinking water to cover the needs of the local population including internally displaced persons;
  • Rehabilitate and build water collection spots and storage points;
  • Train craftsmen and repairers to ensure the sustainability of the rehabilitated or constructed water spots;
  • Train teachers;
  • Train mentors to supervise students who are not in school;
  • Distribute rice and beans
  • Distribute radios and offer education through radio, with the participation of community mentors;
  • Raise awareness among populations of the importance of education and target students who are not in school;
  • Create community management committees to monitor the education program.
