Every day, more than 800 women* die from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth around the world.
These tragedies can be prevented. With your support, we provide pregnant women with quality consultations, educate them about the danger signs of pregnancy and train healthcare workers so that no life is lost due to a lack of appropriate care.
Together, let’s give them a chance to live peacefully with their babies. Make a donation now.

Pregnancy: A Risky Time for Many Expectant Mothers
For too many pregnant women living in remote rural areas, every pregnancy is a struggle. If they experience health problems during pregnancy, getting to a healthcare facility means walking for hours or travelling on roads that are often impassable during the rainy season. Many cannot afford transport, putting their lives and those of their babies at risk.
No one should have to risk their life to give life. In Burkina Faso, for example, we have built waiting centres near health centres: safe places where pregnant women who live far away can rest in safety before giving birth, close to appropriate care in case of emergency. This means they don’t have to travel at the last minute or be too far from a medical facility if an emergency arises.
Informing Women to Protect Them and Their Babies
Too many pregnant women are unaware of the dangers to their health and that of their babies. Without information, they do not know how to recognise the warning signs or when and why to seek emergency care. We organise maternal health education sessions close to women in villages and in their homes for them and their families so that they know what to do at the right time in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso and Nepal. We distribute information in the local language, illustrated with pictures so that all women, even those who are illiterate, can understand it. This means they know the warning signs during pregnancy and for newborns. They are also informed of their rights – knowledge that saves lives.
Make A DonationSmall Gestures can Make a big Difference: Let’s Train Healthcare Workers
In many countries, pregnancy and childbirth can turn tragic due to a lack of trained personnel. A midwife who fails to recognise a danger in time, a nurse who lacks the skills to deal with an emergency…
Together with our local partners, we organise ongoing training courses on birth preparation and obstetric emergencies for midwives and nurses in Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Madagascar and Nepal. To improve the quality of consultations, we also train healthcare staff in respectful communication with patients, for example to welcome them better and explain the care process to them.
Informing Women to Protect Them and Their Babies
No woman should fear for her life when giving birth. By supporting our work, you are helping thousands of women access essential care, trained staff and information that can save their lives.
