Chad has been facing an economic and security crisis since 2014. Nearly one million children are out of school, including one in three boys and one in two girls. Only 32% of adults (22% of women and 43% of men) are literate, which limits their opportunities to improve their living conditions.
It is in this context that Enfants du Monde, with funding from the French Development Agency and the European Union, is implementing a new project to Improve Learning for Youth Empowerment (ALAPAJ) in four provinces: Mandoul, Wadi Fira, Logone Oriental and Ouaddaï, in the east and south of the country. The aim is to strengthen access to and the quality of literacy and non-formal education (outside the formal school system) in order to improve the integration of young people, particularly girls and women, into working life.
Our Impact
- Construction or renovation of basic education centres and literacy centres;
- Mobilisation of communities to bring young people back to school;
- Continuing education for teachers in alternative education centres;
- Promotion of gender-sensitive teaching methods with equal recruitment of male and female students and teachers;
- Provision of appropriate teaching materials free of gender stereotypes;
- Provision of kits containing sanitary protection to facilitate access for girls and women;
- Access to vocational training in line with local activities (arboriculture, market gardening, small ruminant farming, processing of local products, beekeeping, bicycle repair, sewing and embroidery);
- Establishment of community daycare centres to enable mothers to attend classes;
- Collaboration with local partners to ensure a lasting and significant impact.
Souleymane Ouedraogo, Country Director
This project is designed to create an inclusive and equitable educational environment, enabling beneficiaries to improve their living conditions and actively contribute to the development of their communities.
I am confident that together, through our collaboration and determination, we will continue to make significant progress in our mission to promote quality education for all. Together, we have the power to transform lives and build a better future for Chad.
