Empowering youth through improved learning

2023 -2026

provinces

Since 2014, Chad has been facing an economic and security crisis. Almost one million children are not attending school, that is, one boy in three, and one  girl in two. Only 32% of adults, (22% for women and 43% for men), are literate, which decreases their chances of improving their living conditions.

Against this backdrop, Enfants du Monde, with funding from the French development agency and the European Union is running a new programme to Improve Learning for Youth Empowerment in 4 provinces: Mandoul, lWadi Fira, eastern Logone and Ouaddaï, in the east and south of the country. The purpose is to improve access to literacy and non-formal education , as well as its quality (outside the formal school system) in order to better integrate young people, particularly girls and women, into the workforce.

Challenges to education

Recurring challenges include the lack of educational facilities, limited resources, malfunctioning teacher training systems, and linguistic complexity (over 150 languages spoken in the country) due to ethnic diversity.
